Why do some people get motion sickness?

Motion sickness occurs when there is a mismatch between the signals received by the brain from the eyes, the inner ear, and the body. The eyes may see movement, but if the body does not feel it, for example, when reading in a car, this confusion can lead to nausea and dizziness. The inner ear plays a key role in balance, and its sensitivity to motion can make some people more prone to motion sickness than others. This is why children and women are often more affected, as their inner ears tend to be more reactive.
