Albert Einstein was a theoretical physicist renowned for developing the theory of relativity, one of the two pillars of modern physics. Born in 1879 in Germany, he later became a Swiss and American citizen. His work revolutionised our understanding of space, time, and gravity. Einstein’s most famous equation, E = mc², emerged from his theory of special relativity, published in 1905. He also contributed to quantum mechanics and was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1921 for his explanation of the photoelectric effect. A man of wit as well as intellect, Einstein remained a prominent figure in science and public life until his death in 1955.
